Five Popular Spades Variations
Evil Spades
In this variation, the Spades suit will hold the trump cards like the conventional version. In this version, there are no nil bids. Every player will have to bid at least one trick. The suicide format of this variation is where a partner bids nil, and the other bids tricks normally. If one of each team bids nil, it is called double nil. If everyone bids four tricks, it is called the kiss of death. Here, the total bids become more than 13.
It means it is a high-risk round where players can score negative points. In this version, the gameplay is called Chance, where a player has to announce when he has got hold of five Spades cards. Everyone else will bid three tricks, and the one with the highest number of trump cards will bid eight tricks. This version is quite challenging to play as there are many rules and combinations of cards to focus on. That is why it is named the Evil of all Spades variations.
Cutthroat or Solo Spades
As the name suggests, this game is all about a single-playing experience. There are no teams or partnerships with anyone. The prime aim of all the players is to tank players with higher points on the scorecard. It is a four-player game with no partners. It means no one will gift their tricks to any of the players. This variation offers a cutthroat competition for all the players.
When you choose this variation, you will only be playing for yourself. You aim to call several tricks in the beginning and secure them throughout a round. You will also focus on foiling the plans of other players. In this way, you will lead on a scoreboard. Remember, when you lead with scores, every other player will try to take you down. So, play with all your might and use your Spades skills at the right places to score more than the opponents.

Pairs Spades
This two-person game allows you to choose a partner and team up. As the name suggests, you can make a pair and participate in daily contests. What is the difference? You can share the tricks with your partner and vice versa. It reduces the chances of losing multiple times when there is another hand for your support. You will also extend your hand to support your partner and win mutually.
The tricks for this variation will add up. It means the calls you have made in the beginning will add up with your partner’s. Hence, you both will try to achieve the given call and score points. In this variation, the trick lies in communicating with your partner with calls. Your tricks will convey the message to your partner. He will understand how confident you are with your hands and will do the needful. To play this mode of Spades, you must practice with your partner on a popular Spades app to know each other’s play and tricks. You can learn about more exciting games on Tech Blogs In USA.
Joker Spades
This Spades variation is quite popular, as two Joker cards are involved in the gameplay. Two joker cards are chosen from any two suits. One of them is named the Big Joker. The other one is called the Small or Little Joker. Apart from these two cards, the rules of this variation match the conventional ones. Hence, the method of calling and capturing tricks will all be the same. There will be no change in the ranks of these two Joker cards, too. What adds to the fun and thrill is the scoring system. You will gain two extra points if you manage to capture the Big Joker.
Similarly, you will get one extra point credited to your scorecard if you score the Little Joker. All four players will know which cards are the Big and Little Jokers and will try to capture them to score extra points and stay ahead of the rest. So, apart from securing tricks, you will try to capture these jokers for more points.

Miser Spades
This unconventional name says a lot about this Spade’s variation. The conventional version is to grab the tricks claimed in the beginning. In this case, players must bid the lowest number of tricks every time they play. It means a player’s bid will be lower than his previous bid. Here comes the fun part. A player will intentionally have to lose his cards to other players to stick to the tricks he claimed in the beginning. Eventually, all players must run a low game and lose hands. This game only continues for two or three rounds as the bidding style differs entirely from conventional Spades.
Players will restart another round when the number of tricks of a player becomes one. The scoring system is unique, too. A player meeting his claim will score (13 – tricks he called) multiplied by ten. If a player secures more than what is claimed, the same calculation will be done, but he will get negative scores. The game continues for several rounds, and a winner is decided based on the scores.
